The Council's primary
responsibility is to establish priorities for the allocation of Ryan
White Treatment Modernization Act of 2006 funds in Minnesota.
Although Council members do not select which agencies receive
funding, they are instrumental in determining the amount of funding
that will be put into general service areas such as primary health
care and case management.
The Council decides which services are needed by people living with HIV,
develops a plan to provide these services, and decides how much money should
be used for the services. Decisions are based on an evaluation of the needs of
people living with HIV. The Council does not select which agencies receive
funds.
The Council is a diverse, community-based, volunteer
organization. Council membership is designed to mirror the demographics of the
HIV positive community in Minnesota. At least 33% of its members must be
living with HIV.
Each Council member is responsible for preparing for and
attending Council meetings throughout their two-year term. These meetings
occur on the second Tuesday of each month and are usually three hours in
length.
Council members are also responsible for participating on at least one Council
committee. Committees have various time commitments, but all meet at least
monthly for two to three hours. MN HIV Services
